My kids participated in the Certificate of Merit program. Zach performed 4 pieces memorized and Tessa did 3. They took a written, a sight-reading, an ear-training test and tested on 5 minutes of scales and progressions. They are tested out! (I think the earphones are for tuning out Mom). Zach had to play with a broken foot and a sprained and swollen wrist while on heavy doses of Advil. He couldn't even carry his music 'cause of crutches. Yet, was still selected to go on and play at an Honor's Recital. (He declined due to his cousin Brett's Mission Farewell.) "Practice makes perfect."

I remember my sister partaking of such testing! Oh the pressures, but oh the fun afterwords when one had passed and received the accolades! Congratulations to both pianists!
